Lori Krzeszewski PhD Executive Director

Lori has been working in urban schools and communities in Charlotte since 2002. After receiving her M.A.T. in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh, she accepted a teaching job with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She left the classroom after six years of teaching to pursue a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on urban education.  She has spent time teaching and doing research in Cambodia, as well as at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College. Lori has extensive experience working in school and community based programs in the U.S. and abroad. She is passionate about supporting students’ creative experiences and believes education is essential to personal empowerment and social transformation.


CHAD BEVERIDGE, PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Chad Beveridge is a Colorado native who moved to the Queen City to complete a Master’s degree in Teaching. He taught high school English for 4 years before leaving to pursue a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Urban Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As the Program Coordinator, Chad oversees the daily programming for the more than 65 students at Behailu Academy. Previously, Chad has served in the Peace Corps in West Africa as well as taught English abroad in South Korea. He is passionate about the transformational power of education; which includes personal growth, social justice, and analyzing the cultural narrative. chad@behailu.org

BREE STALLINGS, LEAD TEACHING ARTIST

Bree graduated from Queens University of Charlotte in May of 2013 with a Bachelor Degree in Studio Art/Creative Writing, Cum Laude with the completion of her Honors Thesis. She resides near uptown Charlotte where she works as a painter, illustrator and muralist. Currently, she teaches adults and children drawing, painting, comic book illustration and animation, including professional developments with corporate clients and holistic arts practices with children who have incarcerated parents, HIV+ teens, domestic violence survivors and those in the foster care system. She serves as the lead teaching artist at Behailu Academy, where she hires and trains other teachers and coordinates and organizes larger community partnerships between Behailu and Queens University of Charlotte, the Harvey B. Gantt Center, AboutFaceCLT, the McColl Center for Art + Innovation and the Mecklenburg County Health Department. bree@behailu.org

Jenni Olvera, Assistant Academic Coordinator

Jenni Olvera is studying Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Jenni graduated from Garinger High School in June 2016. She was a student at Behailu Academy for two years, and began an internship at Behailu in June 2016 through the Mayor's Youth Employment Program and MeckEd. She is involved in the Hispanic Students Association, and enjoys volunteering at local elementary and middle schools. Jenni enjoys the outdoors, and captures her experiences through photography. Her other artistic mediums are graphite drawings, printmaking and mixed media. She serves as the Assistant Academic Coordinator at Behailu Academy, where she processes student applications, keeps track of their academic progress, and serves as a translator for Spanish speaking families. jenni@behailu.org

E’Ne’Chie Otis, Administrative Assistant

E’Ne’Chie Otis is a freshman at Central Piedmont Community College majoring in Biology. She is a graduate of Behailu Academy. After graduating from Garinger High School in 2017, she held an internship at Behailu through the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program . Once the internship was completed E’Ne’Chie was promoted to Administrative Assistant. For fun she draws, both digitally and traditionally, as well as plays video games and listens to music. admin@behailu.org


Adrianne Woodard, Administrative Assistant

Adrianne Woodard graduated from Garinger High School in 2017. She attended Behailu Academy for 4 years as a student until graduation. Currently, she is an intern at Behailu through MeckEd’s Career Pathway Program. At Behailu, Adrianne assists with administrative duties and teaching guitar. In addition to her internship, she is a student at Johnson C. Smith studying psychology and performing arts. In her free time she plays video games and enjoys watching movies.
